  • Vietnam leaves behind poverty, hunger to become major global trader

    (VEN) - Before the August 1945 Revolution, Vietnam suffered poverty and hunger. Seventy-six years later, Vietnam has become a global exporter of goods boasting trade turnover of hundreds of billions of US dollars per year. Vietnamese goods abroad Seventy-six years after independence, Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products, are available all over the world. The development of the Vietnamese restaurant scene and cuisine in many countries has created demand for processed ingredients imported from Vietnam. In France, most cities have Asian and Vietnamese supermarkets, such as the Thanh Binh-Jeune Supermarket in Paris or the Tien Hung Supermarket in Strasbourg. Vietnamese agricultural products and processed foods such as rice, rice paper, spring rolls, and fish sauce, have also appeared on the shelves of French supermarket chains like Auchan or Carrefour. Vietnamese people buy Vietnamese goods at a supermarket in Germany In Germany and the Czech Republic, the Dong Xuan market (in Berlin) and Sapa Market (in Prague) serve the many overseas Vietnamese working, studying and living there. These and other centers have become a gateway for Vietnamese goods into European markets. The specialty markets feature cheaper Vietnamese products than those sold at other supermarkets, attracting both overseas Vietnamese and local residents. With Vietnam emerging as a workshop for major global manufacturers, “Made in Vietnam” goods have become increasingly popular. Foreign consumers easily come across apparel, technology and electronic components originating from Vietnam. These items are often of the same quality as products made in other countries, but are cheaper. Trade promotion The success is attributed to efforts of the trade promotion section or trade offices who act as the bridge for Vietnamese products to foreign markets. Among their most important tasks are to provide information on import and export policies in the host country, support Vietnamese businesses in learning about foreign markets and help them sign contracts with foreign partners. Vietnam currently has 57 trade offices and seven branches under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, spread out in major regions around the world. Their tasks are to help domestic businesses verify information about partners in these areas, settle disputes, and advise businesses on legal issues before signing cooperation agreements. Residents of other countries learn about Vietnamese goods in their own homeland Amid the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting global supply chains and restricting travel, the Vietnamese trade offices abroad have also played a vital role in organizing online trade promotion activities and trade fairs to introduce and promote Vietnamese products to local importers. Vietnam's 2020 export turnover reached US$281.5 billion. In the first seven months of 2021, export revenues reached US$185.33 billion, with the United States retaining the top spot as Vietnam’s largest importer with turnover hitting US$53.6 billion, followed by China with US$28.7 billion, the European Union US$22.5 billion, ASEAN US$16.1 billion, the Republic of Korea US$12 billion, and Japan US$11.7 billion.   • US to open door for Vietnamese mangoes

    The US Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) has proposed allowing the import of fresh mangoes from Vietnam into the US. Vietnam Cat Chu Mangoes The move is expected to clear the way for the sixth Vietnamese fruit to be exported to the US from the end of this year, after dragon fruit, rambutan, lychee, longan, and star apple. As a condition of entry, Vietnamese fresh mangoes would have to undergo strict checks, including orchard inspections, irradiation treatment, and port of entry inspection. The fruit would also have to be imported in commercial consignments and accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization of Vietnam. According to Commercial Counsellor in the US Dao Tran Nhan, the APHIS has conducted pest risk assessment to protect against the introduction of pests into the US. It identified 18 pests that could be introduced into the US in consignments of fresh mangoes from Vietnam. The US imports about 400,000 tons of fresh mangoes per year, mostly from Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, and Guatemala. The country also grows about 3,000 tons of mangoes annually in Florida, Hawaii, Texas and California. Vietnam expects to ship about 3,000 tons of fresh mangoes to the US every year, roughly equivalent to 1 percent of the US’s mango imports. The USDA on July 19 also announced that it has completed pest risk analysis that finds fresh star apples from Vietnam are safe for import into the US.   • Vietnamese mango promoted in Japan

    A product promotion to advertise Vietnam’s Cat Chu mango was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and Japanese retail giant Aeon at its mall in the prefecture of Chiba on Saturday. This is the first consignment of imported Cat Chu mango, a popular variety with yellow skin and sweet soft meat commonly grown in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Thap, which is being sold in Aeon’s supermarket network. During the promotion, hundreds of Japanese shoppers showed an interest in the eye-catching color as well as sweet taste of the Vietnamese fruit and decided to purchase in large quantities for use or giving as gifts. Medium-sized Cat Chu mangoes were sold at JPY389 (US$3.16) per fruit and large-sized ones at JPY598 ($4.86) apiece, tax excluded.   • Fruit, vegetable exports reach US$836 million in Q1

    (VAN) Vietnam exported US$836 million worth of fruits and vegetables in the first quarter of 2020, a year-on-year decline of 10.9%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. China continued to take the lead in importing Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable with over US$300 million, down 29.4%compared to the same period last year. The sharp decline was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, other markets recorded slight year-on-year growth in January-March such as Indonesia with US$2.1 million compared to only US$164,800 in the same period in 2019, Thailand US$35.2 million as against US$7.6 million one year ago, Laos US$9.6 million compared to US$2.6 million last year, Russia US$8.2 million against US$2.4 million in the same period last year, and Cambodia US$885,300 from US$340,000 from one year ago. Last year, fruit and vegetable exports lagged behind expectations, reaching only US$3.8 billion, a year-on-year drop of 1%. China, the country’s largest importer, tightened requirements for imports from Vietnam via strict quarantine measures and origin traceability.   • The Potential for Macadamias in Vietnam

    For its high economic value and extraordinary nutrition, Macadamia has drawn much enthusiasm from agricultural experts and promised to help farmers in the provinces in the Northwestern region and the Central Highlands of Vietnam reduce poverty and eradicate hunger. The Macadamia, indigenous to Australia, was introduced to Vietnam about ten years ago for trial cultivation in the Northwestern and Central Highland regions where there are the best growing conditions for the tree. Notably, Vietnam’s macadamia trees have produced the same, and higher, yields as Australia, the world’s number one macadamia producer. The macadamia nut is dubbed “the Queen of Nuts” for its extraordinary nutritional value and distinctive flavor. Macadamia harvesting in Vietnam Compared to other common edible seeds, such as almonds and cashews, macadamias are high in fat and low in protein. Out of all the seeds and nuts, macadamias have the highest amounts of mono-unsaturated fats. Nut is round with a diameter of 2-3cm and has a glossy crème. It has a smooth, buttery texture and uniquely flavorful and creamy taste. In Vietnam, Macadamia nuts are normally processed into 32 different products of different tastes, such as raw or salted, roasted and cracked covered with salt, mustard, honey or black chocolate. According to Decree 210/2013/ND-CP, the projects on growing Macadamia trees in a total area of more than 50ha are given support of 15 million dong/ha from the State's budget; nurseries with more than 500,000 macadamia saplings/year are supported up to 70% of its cost. Macadamia nuts Since 2002, the Research Centre for Forest Tree Improvement under the Vietnamese Academy of Forestry Sciences and other organizations have conducted research and grown Macadamia trees on a trial basis in the Central Highlands and the Northwestern region and mountain provinces in the Central region. They initially imported the Macadamia saplings from China, and then Thailand and Australia. After 10 years of trial cultivation in 16 provinces with 20 models in a total area of 35ha, 10 varieties of Macadamia have been selected for planting in the Central Highland and Northwestern regions. Skincare product line from macadamia nuts Seeing the great potential of Macadamia trees, many enterprises have invested in cultivating the lucrative crop, processing and trading Macadamia nuts which are in high demand in the market. For instance, LienViet Post Bank is carrying out a project on giving farmers a loan of 10,000 billion dong to plant the trees and Vinamacca Joint-stock Company is also implementing a project on a training and transferring technique of planting and tending Macadamia trees, building three large-scale Macadamia nurseries in Yen Thuy District (Hoa Binh), Krong Nang District and Coffee 715B Ma’Drak Company in Dak Lak. The Macadamia Joint-Stock Company in Dien Bien Province has carried out a project on growing 3,400ha of forests combined with Macadamia trees in Tuan Giao District, Dien Bien Province. The Macadamia market in Vietnam has now become very busy with the participation of scientists and enterprises involved in planting Macadamia trees, processing and importing and exporting Macadamia nut products. Recently, Festival Macadamia 2015 held in Hanoi introduced customers to Macadamia products and provided them with opportunities for investment.   • Tay Nguyen - Vietnam’s Top Agricultural Product Supplier

    With its agricultural mainstays, such as coffee, rubber, peppers, vegetables and fruit, which annually bring about a total export value of billions of US dollars, Tay Nguyen (the Central Highlands) becomes one of the largest suppliers of agricultural commodities in the country. Establishing Concentrated Areas The region’s temperate climate and red basalt soil are very suitable for growing different varieties of plants, especially long-term industrial and annual plants. The Central Highlands provinces have established large-scale areas specializing in the cultivation of coffee, peppers, rubber, cashews, tea, cross-bred corn and cassavas. Over the years, the region’s coffee, one of the key agricultural products, has affirmed its position in the world, helping Vietnam rank second in the word in coffee production and export, and first in Robusta coffee production and export. At present, coffee is grown on 576,800ha, accounting for nearly 90% of coffee plantations nationwide. The total coffee area for harvest is 548,533 ha. In the 2016-2017 crop, despite harsh weather with a long lasting drought, the region’s yield was 1.3 million tones of beans, which is 93.3% of the country’s total. The productivity of Robusta coffee reached 2.5tonnes/ha, three times that of the rest of the world. Besides coffee, the region has a total area of 251,348ha for rubber trees, including 139,115ha for harvesting with a total annual latex productivity of at least 192,207tonnes, accounting for 27% and 18% of the country’s total area and productivity, respectively. The region has 71,000ha of peppers with a total annual output of at least 120,877tonnes and 74,000ha of cashew with an average productivity of 67,276tonnes. With sound policies on planning for areas of cultivating key plants, the agricultural sector has contributed to promoting the region’s socio-economic development and improving the living standards of ethnic groups. “Bottlenecks” Need to be Removed Quickly Despite many notable achievements, the region still faces many challenges and limitations. According to evaluations from experts at a workshop held recently in Buon Ma Thuot, the infrastructure and agricultural services in the region have not met the real demand and no change has been seen in plant structure. There are many “bottlenecks”, such as land for production, investment, high-quality labor resources and the participation of only a few scientists, investors and agricultural producers. To overcome the above obstacles, Minister of Public Security/Head of the Tay Nguyen Steering Committee To Lam suggested the committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, banks and provinces in the Central Highlands setting up programs to support and give out priorities to establish some models of high-tech agricultural production. Enterprises will be the core to bring the region’s key agricultural products to participate in the domestic and global value chains. It should also promote programs on general research and developing agriculture in terms of management science, policy, mechanism, market, technique and technology, planning production areas towards building an organic agriculture in the Central Highlands. The state should adjust mechanism sand maker policies, suitable to the reality of production, especially the policies on land, investment and credit for agricultural development. It should encourage domestic and foreign economic sectors to invest and develop a mixture of processing agricultural products, such as coffee, rubber, peppers, cashews and cassavas to increase the value as well as the competitiveness of products in the world. He also asked relevant ministries and sectors to support the provinces in the Central Highlands to set up projects on preserving rare varieties, center for plants and animals and training people to meet the demand for sustainable development of agricultural production areas in the region. Nhẹ nhàng ấn từng lát vào vụn bánh mì và đặt lên khay nướng thứ 2 có lót giấy nướng bánh.. B5: Khi bí xong, lấy ra khỏi lò và tăng nhiệt độ lò lên 425 *. Cho chảo rau củ vào lò nướng và nướng trong 5 phút, bây giờ cho thêm khay pho mát dê và nấu thêm 5-7 phút. Lấy pho mát dê ra khi chúng bắt đầu chuyển sang màu nâu một chút và trở nên giòn, cẩn thận để pho mát không bị chảy nha ! B6: Khi rau và pho mát dê gần như đã nướng xong, hãy lấy một cái nĩa và bắt đầu gỡ những sợi mì spaghetti ra khỏi bí vào một cái bát lớn. Lấy rau và phô mai ra khỏi lò. Thêm rau vào bí spaghetti cùng với parmesan, húng quế và tỏi, trộn đều. Ăn ngay với phô mai dê giòn bên trên cùng với tiêu xay và muối vừa ăn.
